Why use WordPress Blogs for the Million Dollar Blueprint

June 30th, 2007 · 1 Comment

Our primary goal is to create content rich websites that attract visitors. Why do we do this?

Content means more visitors, more visitors mean more eyes on your web site, the more eyes on your site the more likely you are to make a sale. Words = Money.

Why do we want content?

So that Google becomes our friend.

Why do we want Google to become our friend?

So Google will give us a higher indexing in the search engines which means more traffic - and more adsense clicks so they will pay us for more adsense referrals.

We want the Google Spider Bots to visit often. They are hungry wee beasties that crave for content so we need to feed them good quality content often. They are also fussy eaters and won’t be satisfied with any old junk that’s stale and regurgitated.

We use WordPress Blogs because they are easy to manage and Google just loves them.

WordPress comes with features that are Google friendly. These features make it easy for Google bots to spider your website and thereby lift your search engine ranking position which equals more traffic.

An easy way to remember these Google friendly features is F-A-T-P-I-G-S…

-Freshness

-Archiving

-Titles

-Pinging

-Interconnectedness

-Google Sitemap.

This is an acronym coined by Sherman Yu from WordPress Tutorials.com.

Freshness…

This means fresh content. Google absolutely loves fresh and unique content. When bloggers add fresh content to Blogs they are adding fresh content to Google. This includes “on topic” new articles (posts), pages and comments on your blog.

Tip: write a fresh post to your blog daily

Archiving…

WordPress has automatic block post archiving which provides the Google spider bots an easy pathway to your posts. Your archives show in your sidebar, indexed by month, so when the spiders visit they can drop into those links easily and crawl through your other posts. This helps Google find your posts easily and index them to be included in the database. Win-Win!

Tip: always show your monthly archive in your sidebar.

Titles…

Your title tag is the blue bar at the top of your browser. When you add your “weblog title” and “tagline” in your WordPress blog options, they will show up in your title tag. Using your niche keywords for your title tags and post titles will help Google find you and categorize your posts and blogs for the right topic.

Tip: use your primary and secondary search terms (keywords) in your weblog title, tagline, and post titles

Pinging…

This is a way to notify the blog directories that you have updated your blog (created a new post). This will activate a google bot to come crwling to your blog… (I like the sound of that!). You will find “Update Services” in your WordPress back office under “options” > “writing”.

You can also use update software like RSS Update to do this also.

Tip: grab a comprehensive list from the NZPCS Million Dollar Blueprint download page and add to your blog’s “update services”

Interconnectedness…

This is where the WordPress Categories and sub-categories come in. These also help Google to find your other pages and posts. Like your archives they lay an easy path for the bots to follow

Tip: use your primary and secondary search terms (keywords) as categories and sub-categories in your WordPress Blog.

Google Sitemap…

This is a WordPress Plugin that has a bunch of Google friendly code that the bots will follow

Tip: install Google Sitemap plugin to your WordPress blog. You can get your own copy form the NZPCS Million Dollar Blueprint download page

So there you are – a crash course in feeding those Google Spiders. Just remember that they love F-A-T-P-I-G-S and you will have a long and happy love affair.
